Hello, my name is Jan

Thank you for visiting my website.

I am an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Counsellor

About me

My roles have been within the NHS for 25 years and within the private and voluntary sectors, helping people who are experiencing a range of psychological difficulties. I offer a person-centred, non-judgmental and down to earth approach within my therapy practice, where you can begin to make sense of some of the dilemmas and difficulties that you are struggling with.

I can offer short or long term therapy based on what you require. I am also trained in Mindfulness for Depression, and CBT for long term conditions. I also specialise in obsessive compulsive disorders, panic, phobias, post traumatic stress, anxiety, low self esteem, life transitions and depression, along with a range of other difficulties.

I can offer therapy sessions: face-to-face, online, or on the phone. The session duration is usually 50 minutes, unless agreed otherwise. While my approach is primarily person-centred, I can also offer you guidance, tools for coping and appropriate information to help with your difficulties, all within a safe, compassionate space to help you to find your own solutions using CBT techniques, so that you may feel more able to become your own therapist in time.

Some of the sessions will involve me inviting you to try some scientifically proven ideas for coping and resolving problems to help you to live the life you would like to live and by providing you with an assessment of your overall needs, we can begin to work together towards your goals by looking at your thoughts, feelings and reactions to make sense of them, so that you may be able to feel less overwhelmed by anxiety and low mood.

Although my approach will help you to address current issues that affect your life, sometimes people may want to talk about the past, but it is not necessary that you do, however, knowing how your past experiences have affected you, may be helpful to you as you gain an understanding of how you cope in the present. I would also like to help you to understand and make sense of how you might be struggling with low self-worth, interpersonal issues and major life changes through illness and losses of any kind.

Our first session

You may prefer to have either counselling sessions or cognitive behavioural therapy or a combination of the two, depending on your preference or presenting difficulties and we can decide what would be the most helpful for you during our first assessment session.
